You know how the airlines tell you to put on your air mask first? As a parent, sibling, caregiver, or spouse, we tend to instinctively reach out to care for the one's we love before we take care of ourselves...But what happens if time runs out before you can put your air mask on? How do you think the other person would feel knowing you sacrificed yourself to care for them? What thoughts would possibly run through your mind when you realize that your time has run out and you won't make it?

Pause...relax...take a break.. I know, I know..your mind is saying, "I don't have time for that!".."I have things to do!".."I can't take a break..a nap..go to the gym!"...Girl, you better make time! By nature we are nurturers..but when is the last time you nurtured yourself? So let me share… I’m the mom and wife that tries to help everyone eat a little healthier..drink more water..get more rest..be more physically active. I’m the mom and wife that says, “You don’t need that extra” or “There is too much sugar in that.” Then a few weeks ago, I get slapped with crazy, high blood pressure..almost borderline diabetes, and cholesterol that is “a little high.” How! I’m the healthy one! (So I thought)…

That’s all it took for me..Lifestyle changes..permanent ones..not just a diet. Walk more, eat cleaner, vitamins, meditation, yoga, and more rest. As a wife, mother of 4, business owner, and full time employee, I didn’t think I had time. But I have learned to make time! I want to be here! I’m only 41 and have a lot of life left to live. I was so worried about everyone else that I wasn’t taking care of myself. I was suffering from migraines, insomnia, slowly gaining weight, and eating when I could remember. But just like the airlines tell us…put on your air mask first.

Pause and take time for you. How can you give your all to anyone if you aren’t making yourself a priority? As we get older, we can’t continue to function like we did in our teens and twenties. Make sure you have your annual exams..get enough rest..do some form of physical activity..eat cleaner..get your labs drawn.. How is your cholesterol? Lipid count? Are you at risk for anything serious? You are precious my dear! Your family needs you! Your friends love you! But most of all..you are important! It’s time to put you first
